EVALUATION Question 4 Who would be the audience for your media product?

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRXEZP1B05DVur4aFzScOW5cixYZXUY_n-LpFp4krpFTxGVn6M09AThis is an example of someone from our target audience. Her name is Eva Smith and she is 19. She is currently studying at the Media school at Bournemouth University. For shopping she mostly does it on the internet due to the somewhat alternative fashion sense she has; which does stray somewhat from the socially constructed stereotype of “normal”. For music she favours bands over single artists; examples include MUSE and Radiohead. Her favourite TV programs are EastEnders and Game of Thrones. In her spare time she likes to go out and take pictures of both urbanised and natural settings; as well as this she enjoys editing them on professional programmes such as Photoshop. Her favourite genre of film would be science fiction due to her specific interest in technology combined with futuristic hypothetical situations. We chose to target this bracket due to the fact that many of the interests were shown in our film so despite the niche audience it has a much more focused pull.

EVALUATION QUESTION 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of construction this product? Jackson Davies

Probably one of the most useful products we used for this assignment would be Blogger. This is a web program that allows the user to create a blog with the intended purpose of organising the project and giving a constant update in the progress of our film opening. The website has a large amount of pro’s; one of which is that it is well organised. This allowed us to clearly show the audience the progression of our film opening in a clear and professional manor. Another is that it allows the user to upload a multitude of different technologies to the blog some of which I used were Glogster, YouTube, and Final Cut Express. For the most part it was relatively easy to use to effect; however I personally found that uploading videos was slightly slow and I often had problems with them loading correctly.

As a technology; YouTube played a large part in the research part of the assignment. It gave us an easy access to and a large variety of resources. However one down side of this website would be that due to the fact that there is so such a large range of videos on it; and when time Is of the essence, it can take a while to actually find the exact thing your are looking for.

Something which I experimented with was Glogster. This is a social based network in which the user can create design and share “Glogs”. I found this very effective in being able to visually portray information to the audience. It allows you to upload pictures and videos to the Glog while having space to insert text as well. On the down side I found this network very unpredictable, and unreliable. The glogs had trouble uploading the videos and the actual website frequently froze resulting in loss of work.

Most of the work was done of the MAC’s. These computers provided us with access to a large variety of up to date and industry standard programs. They were fast and efficient which increased productivity. As well as this the MAC’s were able to support essential programs such as Garageband and Final Cut Express. However a big problem we encountered was that before Christmas we had to make space on the computers through deleting a large amount of data, (this is mostly due to use of the HD cameras). Along with this obviously we used the MAC’s for internet access which is extremely beneficial due to the fact that they are not prone to viruses which greatly increases reliability and safety of work.

Garage band is a music program in which the user can create soundtracks. On this program there is a vast amount of pre-created sounds and also the option of composing your own. This was used to make the soundtrack to our film. I personally found no fault in this program. It is fast efficient and professional. It never froze and was extremely reliable and easy to use.

Final cut express is a program for use of the MAC’s which we have used for the editing part of our opening sequence.

The camera we used for the actual filming is a Cannon 600 Eos D. This camera is digital and can record in HD. This provided us with a clear image. It also had a screen which allowed us to watch over the films straight away which was very helpful. Also there is the fact that it let us delete and wipe the camera without the use of a computer which was vital for times when we were out filming and it ran out of space. We were able to upload the footage/images directly to the MAC’s which sped up the process a lot.
